Jan Swafford

Jan Swafford was educated at Harvard College and the Yale School of Music. He writes and comments on music for a wide range of platforms, from website Slate to Carnegie Hall’s annotated programs to his three biographies of composers. He has received an equally wide range of accolades, including a Deems Taylor Award for internet writing, a National Book Critics Circle Award, a New York Times Critics’ Pick, and a Pen-Winship Prize for literature on a New England subject. In addition, he has taught at schools including Boston University, Amherst College, Tufts, and Boston Conservatory. He is also a prolific composer of New Romantic classical music.
