Robert Leonard Reid was a dedicated mountain climber for twenty-five years, a passion that began with his discovery of Sir John Hunt’s The Conquest of Everest at the age of sixteen. A former Sierra Club mountaineering leader, he has written three memoirs and over one hundred magazine articles about alpinism, American landscapes, and his own personal philosophy. He lives with his wife and son in Carson City, Nevada.
