Roberto de Vicq deCumptich was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He moved to New York to pursue an MFA at Pratt Institute and for the past ten years has been working primarily with publishing houses in New York, as creative director for Random House and HarperCollins. He now manages his own design studio where he is engaged in an array of projects, from branding to typeface design. His work has received countless awards from AIGA, Art Directors Club, Communication Arts, Eye, Graphic, How Print, and Type Directors Club. He is a frequent speaker at such professional organizations and conferences as the Society of Newspaper Designers, the How Conference 2007, AIGA/Adobe Laboratory; TypeCon 2005, and Type Directors Club.
