Ekbert Faas was born in Berlin and has been living in North America since 1972. He studied in Munich, Paris, Madrid, and London and holds a Ph.D. (1965) and a Dr. habit. (1971) in literature. Besides articles, interviews, and translations, he has published books on Renaissance literature, the Victorian dramatic monologue, Modernist and non-Western aesthetics (in German), and with Black Sparrow Press, Towards a New American Poetics. Essays & Interviews (Charles Olson, Robert Duncan, Gary Snyder, Robert Creeley, Robert Bly, Allen Ginsberg) (1978) and Ted Hughes: The Unaccommodated Universe (1980). His Tragedy and After: Euripides, Shakespeare, Goethe (McGill-Queen's University Press, Montreal) will appear in the spring of 1984.
